The United States healthcare industry is undergoing several trends to cope up with the ever-increasing demand and cost of health care industry. Managed care, lower reimbursement rate of Medicare and Medi-Cal and changing health care reform is creating financial challenges and increasing service area competition for various not for profit organization. Which has resulted in closure and consolidation of several not for profit health care organization. The author has elaborated various factors, in this case study that are responsible for developing crisis for a diverse nonprofit healthcare organization. The skilled nursing facility serves patient for post-operative, patient suff ering from disability and prolong illness. The assisted living facility that is a shared living facility for patients. Although EMC is a well-equipped facility but still it, lurk back in some advanced specialized service such as heart catheterization and surgery. This service is a lucrative opportunity for EMC to increase their revenue. But its establishment is presently not affordable by EMC. EMC has a strategic goal to develop emerge as a dominant competitor in their service area. Their goal is to recruit new staff and increase staff retention by offering good wages. Manage their contract with HMO and governmental facility to get enough reimbursement rate for services. Furthermore, undergo technological advancement to provide advanced services to their patients and generate revenue from those services. Presently EMC is experiencing a significant number of challenges. Recently EMC was in unfavorable highlights of newspaper and has undergone investigation conducted by the department of public health due to the mishandled case of Haley Eckman by the EMC emergency department.
